Dominic and Ayron Suazo

We have been together for over half our lives! We meet in high school, started dating and here we are 27 years later.

How did your love story begin?

We were high school sweethearts—he was the confident football captain, and I was the geeky swimmer girl. Now in our 40s, we’ve faced more than most couples ever will. Two years ago, my husband lost his eyesight unexpectedly, changing everything overnight. It shook our world—but it didn’t break us. Through every challenge, we’ve held onto each other. Our love has grown deeper, stronger, and more unshakable. This isn’t the life we imagined—but it’s a love story we’re proud to live.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

On Christmas Eve 2009, surrounded by my family and our dogs, he knelt beside me. I said, “No babe, sit here—I’ll move,” but he smiled and said, “I’m good. I’ve got something to say…” Then he proposed. I was stunned, glowing, and said yes! My grandma, confused, chimed in, “Wait—I thought you two were already married!” We laughed through happy tears. It was imperfectly perfect, and so completely us.

What would you do with $20,000?

The memories he “sees” will always be there, but we would Definitely invest in finding a way for Dominic to make seeing again a possibility.
