We would like to thank you for supporting Denise & Matthew in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana in their respective missions to support hunger relief and ocean conservation.
Matthew and I met the old-fashioned way—at a bar on Halloween, drunk and in costume. Then COVID hit, and boom: two strangers suddenly in a two-year government-mandated cohabitation experiment. We laughed, cried, hoarded toilet paper, and fell in love somewhere between sourdough starters and existential dread. Turns out, nothing says “soulmate” like surviving a pandemic in matching sweatpants.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple? We have so many, but one that stands out is being at a Colorado Avalanche game, sitting right behind the glass when the COVID lockdown was announced. I’ll never forget watching the entire bench glance at their phones in shock while we just sat there, unsure if we should cheer or start stockpiling canned beans. It was the most surreal, front-row-seat-to-history kind of date night.
What would you do with $20,000?With $20,000, we’d start building the casita in our backyard to create a safe, comfortable space for our aging parents to live with us. It’s our way of keeping family close, supporting them as they supported us—and let’s be honest, it’s also an investment in storytelling and unsolicited life advice for years to come.
