Denise and Wellington Wooten

We (re)found each other after separately moving from the Midwest to the west coast. Our love story is one many have pushed us to publish.

How did your love story begin?

We worked for the City of Milwaukee but in different departments. The first time I actually noticed him, I found myself saying, “Now that’s a man I could marry”. It took time before we became acquainted. I had very little to go on not knowing his name or where he was assigned. Coworkers tried to narrow down for me who this mystery man could be. We finally met two years later in the parking lot of a recycling center. His eyes and smile confirmed he had been looking for me as well.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

Busses have played a huge part of our lives. I vaguely saw him driving one two blocks away just sensing some familiarity. I boarded one and sat directly across from him without an inkling that he’d be there and I proposed to him in front of a buss load of passengers.

What would you do with $20,000?

Pay off our mortgage and plan a stay- cation. We inherited our home from Wellington’s mother and remodeled with the help of family and friends, each room and the entire inside and outside. There is no place we love or enjoy more.
