Connect How did your love story begin?

In 1983,after months of ignoring me, every time I’d walk into a room he’d walk out, Rob and I found ourselves alone at separate ends of a long gravel parking lot in downtown Louisville. It was midnight. He was getting into his van and me in my beetle when I yelled out across the distance, “Hey, you’ve got a big problem!” He turned and said, “I do?” To which I responded, “You’re in love with me and haven’t figured it out yet.” I drove away leaving him slack jawed in the dust. I was 23 years old.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

When Covid hit, we were in Los Angeles and had family members in New York and Kentucky who were dying of cancer. We couldn’t bear the thought of not being able to say goodbye, so we rented a small truck camper, filled it with food for our journey, masked up and drove across country. We listened to books on tape (“The Dutch House” did us in), ate homemade meals, had dinner with our daughter and husband creekside in Gettysburg, and launched a model rocket with Uncle Eddie before he passed.

What would you do with $20,000?

Rob and I want to start a scholarship fund for kids who want to study the arts. There are so many who cannot afford a higher education and while 20 grand won’t solve all, it will be a start and we can add to it as we go. Think of all the artists out there that have no idea of the value of their voices. Rob and I come from a lower middle class upbringing. The fact that we’ve made a living in the arts surprises us to this day. How cool it would be to help others do the same.
