We're working through life and raising our children trying to not mess them up too much. Our friendship holds us together.
You decide who wins $20,000 and appears in Variety magazine as America’s Favorite Couple
I was 17 and he had probably just turned 16. I had a crush on his brother who I had been friends with, and known, since first grade. I thought, "Gosh, if I could only befriend him, then maybe he'll put in a good word for me." So, yeah, my intention was to use him. Horrible, I know. I introduced myself outside of the locker rooms one afternoon in the fall of 1992. But the special thing? We became fast, and better, friends than his brother and I ever were.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?Besides making the children? Cuz' we've done the math, and each one has a little story behind it. We have a lot of little fun anecdotes scattered over the past 30+ years. One of our favorites was how we bought our first (and only, so far) home. I threw a great surprise 40th birthday party for him which is a favorite of his. Another was a surprise family trip to CA. We were on our way to evening service but instead of going north, we went south and told the kids on the way. Priceless!
What would you do with $20,000?We'd love to go on a family trip to see Harry Potter in Florida. We were supposed to do it this year for our daughter's graduation, but we just couldn't afford it and hoping to be able to next year. Our 20-year anniversary is in October 2026, and our youngest son would love for us to go to Guam, where the Mesa family is from. I would love to go to the vehicle-less island of Mackinac and slow down a bit. Apparently, we would travel with $20,000.
