But I didn’t—and when I saw him walking up to me, I immediately felt a rare sense of comfort and connection despite having exchanged fewer than 20 words online. We talked for hours, and when he casually mentioned losing his home in the fire, I was moved by his strength and lightness.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?Our love is a mix of tomfoolery and romance: Casablanca on the big screen, then dinner at the cheesy, retro, eponymous restaurant in Venice; getting chased by a “sea monster” (a seaweed-covered man and his dog); dancing all night at Cicada Room, then driving down Mulholland blasting pop punk and new wave. We go to art shows, concerts, puppet prom—and make each of our dates feel like our own little world.
What would you do with $20,000?We’d rebuild—literally and symbolically. The money would help replace what Chad lost in the fire, support his disabled parents, and help us build a future in Pacific Palisades. We’d also create something to share with others: a love letter to surviving disaster with humor, art, and heart.
