We choose each other no matter how hard things get. We have worked through family losses, law school, and immigration processes as a team.
We would like to thank you for supporting Brooke and Raúl in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana in their respective missions to support hunger relief and ocean conservation.
We met as roommates in a rent-by-room hour in Washington, D.C., just before COVID. Brooke was interning for Congress at the end and Raúl was working as a cameraman on a journalism visa. Brooke had a cat and this was the only place in her budget that would accept pets. Ours was a quick love story, developing within 3 months before Covid sent Brooke back home to small-town Pennsylvania. Raúl was soon laid off from his job, also due to Covid, & instead of returning to Mexico, came to Pennsylvania.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?Our favorite memory as a couple was Raúl’s first night meeting Brooke’s parents, a few months into dating. Unfortunately, shortly after making our relationship official, Brooke’s mother passed away unexpectedly. The night Raúl met Brooke’s parents, we had a small BBQ in their backyard. It was so serene and fun, and he truly felt like family. Brooke’s mom ended the night by saying she hopes we’d get married someday (which for Brooke, was very embarrassing at the time but so meaningful now).
What would you do with $20,000?We would put a decent amount of the money towards a house, that way we could continue and improve our animal rehab work (as it’s been very difficult to do from our apartment). We would also invest some and put some towards Raúl’s current short film.
