Connect How did your love story begin?

I worked in Hospice. Late shift. Stop for coffee at the Speedway. A man behind the register. I met his eyes for a brief moment, and I was in love. I believed he was in a relationship, so I kept my passion hidden. On those late nights, we talked of ancient history, and amazing animals and the Universe. Finally someone to really speak to about all the things I thought of every day. I was broken, ready to unalive myself at this point in my life. Seriously. Then, across the counter, his number.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

The moment I found the courage to pull over in my car and for the first time in my life, assert my feelings. After David gave me his number, I realized he wasn't with anyone. I pulled over the car, my heart beating out of my chest, and called speedway. David answered. I said, "It's Beth." He said, "who?" I replied, " the woman you just have your number too." We've not been apart since. He's the love of my life. My nerve dystrophy takes all of my strength, David gives it back.

What would you do with $20,000?

Our home is falling apart. It's paid for and we cannot go anywhere else. I hope to get a roof that doesn't pour water in the bedroom when it rains. Fix the electric so I have electricity in all the rooms. That's all we need. A home until we are no longer here. Maybe go see the great Sequoia redwood trees. My dream and his.
