Instant spark but different backgrounds — a pandemic, cardiac arrest, and coma later, we never lost the passion and make each other better.

Assal had just started using dating apps after ending a 9-year relationship, with no intention of dating seriously. Dates were lined up just to be wined and dined. But from the first moment, the connection was instant. All other dates were canceled and we found every excuse to see each other—out of character for both of us. There were so many reasons things wouldn’t work, but we couldn’t stay away from each other. The dates kept coming and we fell in love first slowly, then all at once.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple? One of our favorite memories is when we first lived together during the pandemic and spent a month working remotely in Hawaii. We’d start work early, then spend the rest of the day by the water. He had taught me how to ride a bike during the pandemic, and I became obsessed with biking everywhere in Honolulu. It was a carefree, adventurous time that brought us even closer.
What would you do with $20,000?We’d use the $20,000 to finish renovations on our first home and finally have a space of our own. As newlyweds, we’re still living with my elderly parents—while it’s been meaningful, we’re ready for the privacy and independence to begin this next chapter. It would give us a peaceful place to grow, create memories, and build the life we’ve been dreaming of—just the two of us (plus our baby/dog Mochi).
