We met during an AmeriCorps year—Alex had just moved to Sacramento from Connecticut, and didn’t have a car. Avery offered her rides, and somewhere between the commutes, shared snacks, and late-night convos, something real started to grow. It felt easy. Like home.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?We took a DREAM two-week trip to Barcelona, but the highlight wasn’t the sights or the food—it was one random night when we couldn’t sleep. We stayed up in bed, whispering and laughing until 2 a.m., totally exhausted and totally in sync. No plans, no itinerary—just us, giggling like kids. That’s the moment we always come back to.
What would you do with $20,000?We’d use it to finally buy our first home—a place that’s fully ours. Somewhere our rescue dogs can sprawl out, where Avery can write music in peace, and where Alex can fill the space with handmade things—knitting, crochet, embroidery, all the quiet magic that makes a house feel like home. More than anything, we want roots. A space that reflects who we are, and who we’re becoming.
