Connect How did your love story begin?

I spent time studying Arabic in Africa which was a journey that blessed me to meet her. Before we ever met in person, we would message back and forth me practicing my Arabic through text, and her patiently responding. She didn’t speak much English at the time, and I was still learning Arabic, but we were both committed to overcoming the language barrier between us. Our first meeting was over Moroccan tea and google translate. Months later, I fly to her family’s home, asking her father to marry.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

One of my favorite memories as a couple was actually the day after our marriage. I was deeply moved not only by the love of her parents, who welcomed me with open arms but also by the embrace of her grandparents, including one who is indigenous to the region. As I walked through the home, greeting relatives from generations above her, I was met with warmth, acceptance, and even a kiss from elders I had just met. It was a powerful moment on how our love will continue their legacy. It was special

What would you do with $20,000?

I don’t have a mother or father here in America, so during my visits, her family quickly became like my own. Though they come from humble means, their warmth and generosity run deep. If I were to receive the $20,000, I would dedicate it to supporting her younger brothers, especially the oldest, who is about to graduate high school, and the youngest, who’s not far behind. I want to help them become the first men in their family to earn a college degree. I know this feeling first hand.
