Connect How did your love story begin?

Our love story began like all the best ones do, with a 13-year-old Greg snatching Laura's pencil at a youth group Christmas party and lighting it on fire in a candle with a group of friends. What can we say: when it's meant to be, it's meant to be. We started dating 2 years later. Our youth pastor told us, in front of that same youth group, that we wouldn't last 2 weeks.. and there's nothing like telling two quietly revolutionary teenagers they can't do something to really make 'em commit.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

The 2011 Pride Parade in New York City. Marriage had just been legalized, and we rode a float down 5th Avenue with affirming Christians, and queer people of faith. Laura wore our infant son in his carrier, and we smiled, cried, and celebrated together with the crowd while "Chapel of Love" played over the speaker. As a neurodivergent family, big sensory moments can sometimes be overwhelming, but this was simply effervescent JOY and a cherished piece of history we got to share as a young family.

What would you do with $20,000?

We’d tackle the home DIY projects currently topping our to-do list, chip away at the mortgage (housing costs, right?), and fund a proper celebratory weekend getaway. With our son now a high school senior, these family moments are fleeting, and we definitely want our two dogs tagging along for the adventure to celebrate the ride!
