Connect How did your love story begin?

Our love story began over 17 years ago—on the very first day of internal medicine residency (well, technically orientation). He shot his shot… but it didn’t land. Still, something lingered. I was a single mother, laser-focused on completing my medical journey. Love wasn’t on my radar—but purpose was. Over time, we grew closer as friends. He even babysat my then 6-year-old daughter while I finished call shifts. What started as a missed shot became something extraordinary.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

We have so many cherished memories—our wedding, the birth of our children, birthdays, graduations, and reunions. But one that stands out is when my husband dressed up as the Grinch. He snuck in through the front door with a sack, ready to “steal” presents from our then 12- and 10-year-old sons. He only got one gift before they chased him down. The Grinch needed rescuing that night, our boys chased him down the street.

What would you do with $20,000?

With $20,000, we would support our nonprofit, the Medical Education Foundation—an organization dedicated to providing early healthcare education and career exposure to youth as young as 5. These funds would help us expand hands-on workshops, provide supplies, and increase access to mentorship and outreach events, empowering the next generation of healthcare leaders from underserved communities.
